Jarryd Bailey
Jarryd Bailey is a celebrated Tasmanian bonsai artist who runs Montane Bonsai, a stunning nursery and studio located on a heritage listed property on the northern slopes of kunanyi/Mount Wellington. He is famous for his work with Tasmanian native species, such as the endemic Nothofagus gunnii and ancient conifers, which he cultivates to reflect the rugged beauty of the local wilderness.

His skills are backed by a prestigious education, including an intensive apprenticeship in the United States under renowned bonsai artist Michael Hagedorn. This training allowed him to blend world-class technical precision with his own naturalistic philosophy.

Bailey’s artistic approach prioritises the inherent character of the tree over rigid traditional styling, aiming to authentically replicate the resilience of alpine flora. Through his work and educational programs at Montane Bonsai, he promotes a philosophy of environmental stewardship and mindfulness, positioning bonsai as a sophisticated medium for deepening one's connection to the natural world.
